Visual Statements

Illusion is no longer possible because the real is no longer possible. Welcome to the desert of the real.

BIMBO is a video-performance about the objectification of women in the media. BIMBO questions the pornofication in the public sphere and wants to contribute to the demystification of the female body.

BIMBO is a highly visual installation piece, a televisual performance that charts a middle course between R&B video clip and nightmare.

BIMBO is a stimulating theatre show about the apparent freedom of the world in which we live. The makers are inspired by R&B video clips and by the frequent use of images from the porn industry in contemporary advertising. By making this performance they want to share their doubts and confusion about this subject.

BIMBO was nominated for the VSCD Mime Prize. BIMBO was also selected for the Dutch Theater Festival and the Flemish Theater Festival as one of the ten best performances of the past season.

‘THE theater performance of the past season.’

BIMBO is part of the Visual Statements series (2011-2014).  Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot question the dominant image culture of today’s spectacle society. They expose mediatized representation and its claim to reality. In doing so, they play with the double bind of alienation.
