Visual Statements

‘If you can dream it, you can do it.’
— Walt Disney

Small World is a theatrical happening which shows the way present-day consumers are continually looking for entertainment and disguise. For satisfaction, not so much in a general sense (media, newspapers, porn), as in being overwhelmed by the pink candy-floss world of Disney. Small World is representing the entertainment industry as a theme parc, not as a fairground but a haunted place, a horror castle.

Small World is part of The Visual Statements-series (2011-2014). Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot question the dominant image culture of today’s spectacle society. They expose mediatized representation and its claim to reality. In doing so, they play with the double bind of alienation.
